Kinshasa, December 27, 2022 (ACP).-Congolese music lovers remembered one of the icons who marked his time, the Congolese singer Lulendo Matumona François alias « General Defao », on the occasion of a year of his disappearance, on December 26th, 2021 in Cameroon where he was invited with his group « Big Stars » for a series of productions.
“His death surpasses me, his disappearance was a great loss for Congolese music. Defao was one of those who validly sold the culture of our country under other skies,” said Papy Mabilama, a Defao fanatic, living in the commune of Ngiri-Ngiri where Defao spent a large part of his life during his glory years.
“We only lament the fact that when our artists die, their bands don’t survive. It’s sickening to see his group disappear right after the death of the leader and yet this one makes the Congolese of a certain generation dance with dances such as Bic oyo 100”, he complained.
“It’s been a year to the day since the disappearance of General Defao. However, no provision is made to commemorate this date, the Union of Congolese Musicians (UMUCO) only exists in name, the musicians are not welded, it is pitiful if we continue to live in hypocrisy” , lamented the singer Pitshu Buba, one of the former members of the group “Big Stars”.
To this end, he invited Congolese musician artists to unity and a sense of forgiveness in order to carry the country’s culture high through music.
Author of several hit songs such as « School Love », « Family Kikuta », « Hitachi », « Damien Dimonekene », « Nessy de London », « Richard Lelo » and others, General Defao whom music lovers affectionately called « Séné Chall » began his professional musical career with Pepe Felly Manuaku Waku’s « Grand Zaiko Wawa » group before joining « Choc Stars » where he rained and shined alongside the so-called his twin, Debaba el Shabab to finally create his own group « Big Stars » accompanied by Montana Kamenga, Théo Mbala and many others.
